Hotel in the center of Rome
Hotel in Rome city-center in the fascinating heart of historic area of the city, between Piazza Navona and the left bank of the River Tiber, where one has the impression that the Marquis of Grillo could come out of a door way at any moment, a fantastic hotel with 23 rooms was opened in May 2004 in Via del Teatro Pace. In the 1600s it was the residence of a cardinal of the Vatican Holy See. This accommodation in central Rome, painted in the typical colour of warm terracotta red of many palaces and which also mirrors the Roman sunsets, is situated in one of the most characteristic small streets in the historic centre of Rome, Via del Teatro Pace, which branches off Corso Vittorio, from the famous little square where the half-bust of a melancholy statue of the Roman era still designates the place in which “il Pasquino” (a popular traditional Roman celebrity) left his satirical verses at night-time, aimed at the powerful people of the city. The small entrance to the hotel, distinguished by a white arch over peperino columns and with a marble plaque above which commemorates the religious origin of the building, is easy to mistake from the numerous typical restaurants nearby, the many-coloured Roman trattorias and the surviving workshops of craftsmen restorers, gilders and antique dealers, who with difficulty still resist the advent of modern technology. Opposite the hotel on the other side of the road, there is a large noble palace which housed in its courtyard (accessible from Via dell’Anima) the “Teatro Pace”, a wooden stage built in 1691. Dedicated to plays and other entertainments, for over 150 years it hosted important performances by illustrious names like Carlo Goldoni who, together with his company, tread the boards there on many occasions. The performances were given in the open air with no cover whatsoever, and it was due to severe weather conditions and lack of maintenance that, in the year 1853, the theatre was finally closed due to the stage being dangerous and not fit for use.
How to reach us
By car :
here we have to inform you that the hotel is situated inside the Roman area known as the “limited traffic zone” (ZTL), which is marked by a series of electronic entrances, accessible only during certain hours. The nearest entrance to the hotel is situated in Via Zanardelli (Lungotevere Tor di Nona), which has the following hours of closure:
Closed from 06.30 to 18.00 from Monday to Friday
Closed from 14.00 to 18.00 on Saturday
Closed from 23.00 to 03.00 on Friday and Saturday
Between these hours access is not allowed to “non-residents”. We would like to add that the ZTL entrances are continually scanned by telecameras which photograph every passing vehicle, so therefore unauthorised vehicles are automatically fined. To reach the hotel by car, we would suggested the following route:
- from Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, when you reach Piazza della Chiesa Nuova
- turn into Via della Chiesa Nuova
- then right into Via del Governo Vecchio
- then first left into Via di Parione
- then right into Via di Tor Millina (for a very short stretch)
- and then immediately right into Via del Teatro Pace, where 30 metres on the right, you will find us!
Where to park : The hotel does not have its own private parking space, but if requested the Reception personnel will be happy to reserve you a place in the only garage available in the neighbourhood. The terms, conditions and itinerary to reach this parking place (about 10 minutes walking distance from the hotel) are available in Reception.
By train : The Rome central station is the Stazione Termini, which is only two kilometres from the Hotel Teatro Pace. From the square outside the Termini station, you can take the No.64 bus (a well-known line that takes you to the Vatican) or the No.40 Express bus, and in about 15 minutes you will arrive at Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, where you can get off at three different stops. The first is situated a few meters after Piazza St Andrea della Valle; the second opposite the Palazzo della Cancelleria; and the third in Piazza della Chiesa Nuova (the No.40 Express bus stops only here). Every one of these stops is a 5 minute walk from the hotel.
If you have taken the No.64 bus and got off at the first stop mentioned above, walk along the same side of the street and soon you will reach Piazza St Pantaleo (where the building which houses the “Museo di Roma” is situated). From here, continue along Via di St Pantaleo, which after a few meters will take you directly to Piazza Pasquino. Crossing this square in direction of Via del Governo Vecchio, on the right you will find Via del Teatro Pace, where the hotel is situated.

By taxi (instructions and warnings) : By taxi (instructions and warnings) : Dear Guest, we want to give you some tips and warnings about the taxi transportation in the hope to be helpful to you. When you take a taxi to come to the hotel, wherever you are (airport, railway station, suburb or downtown), you should always ask in advance to the driver to drop you off in front of the hotel entrance and not to allow him to drop you off far away from the hotel. Some drivers will tell you that the street seems quite narrow and he won't be able to get to the hotel entrance, ...it is absolutely false! They are very "smart" and they perfectly know that when you are in front of the hotel, they cannot ask you for more money than a regular fare because if you have any doubt, before paying you can get to the hotel reception desk and ask the conçierge if the fare requested is right or not. So, it is better to pay some euros more and claim to get to the hotel entrance, avoiding the risk to pay much-much more and to feel bad for having been cheated!
